More cloudy days and rain, but we found the halibut---
The days remain cloudy, with rain at intervals, but without the wind these last few days. Continue to walk on the beach most days, continuing to collect shells, and just enjoy the ocean view.
Yesterday we watched my B ball team win, (Tom was rooting for the Celtics), and Ernie Bird was projecting his WOO!! WOO!! for both teams at frequent intervals. How about those LAKERS!!
Today we left for Katchemak Bay at 4:30, to enable us to fish the "slack tide" and took our pick of the largest of the small Halibut. Lane went with us and we enjoyed the day and returned with our first of the season Halibut. I made it interesting by catching (more like hooking) 3 anemone. Just so you realize it takes a rare kind of talent to do this!
We arrived home just in time for Lane and I to attend a baby shower. It was so much fun to see all the co-workers, and celebrate the good news that Aimee and Matt are expecting first babies (twin boys) in Aug.
Looking forward for a day of rest and Tom is planning to try out a new recipe with fresh Halibut.

Windy Days
It has been windy the last couple of days, but still went for a nice long walk on the beach yesterday. The cliff provided protection I wasn't expecting and I took my time on the way to gather shells. There are groups of floats appearing in the ocean in front of our cabin. We are hoping that they are set nets and we can buy some salmon directly off of the ships when they pull the nets.
Had a wonderful relaxing lunch with a couple of co-workers. Was great to catch up.
We are watching the weather, and planning our next fishing trip. Several of my friends are trying to arrange times they can go. When Tom gets his buds contacted we will have plenty of company. Clam tides are coming in a few days--but we would need the Malissa/Ray team as they are the experts.
It has already been suggested that we have a BBQ since it would be fun on the lawn and beach.
Funny how the idea seems to be spreading as several have now seconded the idea.
I started tracing the applique for the Baseball Player on Kadens quilt. I am glad to start working on it, as he has waited a long time. It takes creativity to find enough space to work. I may take it out on the deck sometimes if the wind dies down.
Had a wonderful relaxing lunch with a couple of co-workers. Was great to catch up.
We are watching the weather, and planning our next fishing trip. Several of my friends are trying to arrange times they can go. When Tom gets his buds contacted we will have plenty of company. Clam tides are coming in a few days--but we would need the Malissa/Ray team as they are the experts.

Katchemak Bay fishing
We took the boat out for a trial run and to see if the Halibut were in at our secret spot. Ok day, seas were calm, boat battery stayed up, and we caught fish--Tom 5 -Jane 7. Were they keepers No! and we did not catch one halibut. This means we will wait a few days before we try again and go to our old stand by the Chicken Hole, if we do not catch any after we again try the secret spot. Some of you have been successful at both of these places with us before. Tom remembers only being "skunked" 2 other times coming home without halibut. So we have a reputation to keep up, and we have to find the fish before Ray or Terry and Vera come to visit.

Alaska Summer
6/6 Beautiful Day, mostly sunny. I finished scrubbing out the boat, and continued to get supplies ready for our first time out tomorrow.
An eagle frequently flys over and back across the beach. We have yet to spot a nest. One of the four resident dogs watches for her and chases along the edge of the cliff. It seems like a common pastime. We watched the dogs being trained for their agility competitions. They are very quick border collies, and obviously love every minute of the exercise.

Can't wait to get out in the bay (Katchemak) early in the morning for our 1st fishing experience this year.
